About Alcohol: Britain’s Most Harmful Drug
It is no secret that the UK as a whole has a particularly high intake rate of alcohol compared to other parts of Europe. The blame for this has been placed largely on the availability of cheap drinks throughout the county by politicians, but the issue runs much deeper than this. This is especially noticeable during the Christmas month of December where it has been recorded that the countries intake of alcohol rises by about 41% compared to other months of the year. In this BBC Three special we explore the affects of this increase and meet up with several individuals who suffer from a dependancy on drink. One such man is Garry, his future now depends on beating his alcohol addiction. We also meet Nathaniel who is 25 and delivers alcohol after hours to some of London’s richest residents and discover how young, drunk revellers are comforted by OAPs like 71 year old Katie.
